Magic Highlights are a new feature, introduced to Prepd in June 2019, to help guide starting debaters, as well as offer an educational tool to more experience ones, or to coaches. The highlights are generated automatically, through an algorithm based on Natural Language Processing; so you can look at it as an artificially intelligent robot, who knows what should matter from the article content based on the language.
Where can I find them?
You can find Magic Highlights on any article from the News Feed, or those yo save through the Fast Catch from now on. In the News Feed, when you open an article, the Magic Highlights will appear automatically, colored in red.
On saved articles, when you first open them you will see the Magic Highlights, and afterwards you will be able to switch between them and your own highlights (or your team's), by using the View Mode button at the top.
How do they work?
When you save an article to Prepd (be it from the News Feed, Fast Catch or Library mobile), the Magic Highlights will automatically populate, showing you the most important information within. You will, then, have the option of removing some of the auto-generated highlights, to customize what matters most to you. By editing the Magic Highlights, the app automatically switches you to "All highlights", and assigns the remaining Magic Highlights to you (i.e. the user who saved the article and edited the Magic Highlights).
In Prepd Offline, you will be able to see all your highlights (your own, your team, and any Magic Highlight you kept), but they will appear under a single colour, to comply to the NSDA tournaments rules and regulations.
